Professionalism Programme Best Practice Guide: Part 3 - Raising the Board's IS Awareness
Best Practice Guide
Product Information
During 2006/7 the National Computing Centre launched the IS Professionalism Programme - a programme which aimed to recast IS as the key enabler of business transformation. A number of objectives were set during a series of 10 workshops. The outputs of each workshop have been synthesised into a Best Practice Guide by Bob Jarvis, an IS/IT veteran with over 40 years experience.
This Best Practice Guide is the output of the third IS Professionalism workshop. More CEOs need to think about business opportunities enabled by IS. Tactics for getting the Board to think outside the box and really value IS/IT are examined.
In terms of best practice we are concerned with how to form attitudes and nurture relationships rather than recommending detailed practices and procedures. We are thinking tactically rather than operationally.
It is true that the board is more likely to notice an IS/IT operation that is performing badly rather than one that is performing well, so our concentration will be on enabling the good IS/IT operation to do even better things.
We consider the means of aligning business strategy and IS/IT strategy and identify effective ways in which to communicate sound technology-based propositions to the Board.
