Developing a strategy for strategy

"You’ve got a strategy. I’ve got a strategy. We’ve all got a strategy." OK, but: "Is it a good strategy? Is it the right strategy? Could it be a better strategy?"

These are questions we ask ourselves, or are asked of us, usually once a year. Developing strategy is not easy work and in answering these questions we often have uncertainties and doubts. We have to fold into our thinking so many diverse influences and effects and balance these off against our available resources and ability to cope:

  • Rapid (exponential even) rates of change.
  • New openness and transparency policies impacting all sectors of the economy.
  • New ICT technologies (mobile/cloud) and management methods (open source development/agile).
  • New market adoption dynamics (consumerisation/social).
  • Competitors’ plans and the effects of globalization.
  • The optimum size and shape for my IT organisation.

So what use then is a one-year strategy, never mind a three-to-five year plan? There is a way forward…

Attend this National Computing Centre seminar and learn about adapting your thinking and strategy-making process to an unstable world. PA Consulting will reflect upon lessons learned in working with a variety of organisations on their IT and transformation strategies, and distil a ‘strategy for strategy’ for you to take away. There will also be ample opportunity for you to share your own stories and lessons learned, either in the seminar itself or in the time for networking afterwards.

Benefits of attending:

  • Find out how others are approaching strategy development in unstable times.
  • Discover approaches you can use to make your strategy more effective.
  • Discuss strategy development with peers facing the same challenges.
  • Hear the findings of NCC's national Benchmark of IT Strategy and Spending.
